With many different religious, ethnic, and social groups, the Republic of India is a unique and diverse state. Since gaining independence, India has faced a challenge of encouraging the variegated people within its borders to embrace and celebrate a common Indian identity even while nurturing their distinct cultures and traditions. This diversity is reflected throughout social and political challenges in Indian society. Although the different federal states are given a certain amount of leeway to accommodate for the population’s heterogeneity, the central government maintain a great amount of power for purpose of holding the nation together. As India has developed, one of its focuses has been the energy sector and increasing Indian citizens’ access to electricity. The government has historically carried a large influence over India’s vital electricity sector,. Electricity is a concurrent subject under the Cons titution, falling under the purview of both the central government and the states. Whether by influencing the electricity sector through private companies collaborating with the central government or acting directly through state-owned companies and bureaucracies, India has maintained a large degree of centralized control over the electricity sector. Since passing the Energy Conservation Act of 2001, the government has pursued a national policy of increasing Indian electricity independence and access. In order to meet these goals, India has used state-owned enterprises and bureaucratic institutions to maintain direct control over the sector. The Day She Left Me Home Alone

The day she left me home alone. Realizing when ones childhood is beginning to fade is not an event that can be targeted at an exact time in an individual’s life. Childhood begins to vanish differently for people based on culture, age, and life experiences. My childhood started to end when I was 7 years old; the day she left me home alone. My mother had just become a single mother running from an abusive relationship with my father and had to begin life anew.My strong dependency on my mother and the illusion of being an only child, due to me being the youngest of several older brothers and sisters, made the thought of â€Å"growing up† a nightmare. Realization of my soon approaching adulthood became evident, as I had to face the difficulties of being distant from my mother, learning to connect socially with peers, taking on more self-responsibility, and the building of self-confidence. These trials and tribulations would help to lead me to a higher level of maturity and a true realization of life.Although what I endured forcefully was difficult, the most challenging would be my distancing from my mother the security that linked me to my youth. Severing the bond between a mother and child is a tough task at any given stage of life. This was especially difficult for my mother as I was her only girl and youngest child. Being a single mother and working two jobs created excessive hardship for my mother. Her constant struggle with taking me to her place of work left her with no other choice than to leave me at home.This was the first time that I had to truly cope with being away from her and it was an immense strain on my emotional state. My next challenge ensued when I had to begin spending time with my father. Several years after my parent’s separation my father later remarried became a new man, giving the judicial system the opinion that I should see my father more often. My pursuit into the new world known as my father’s house, otherwi se known to me as â€Å"hell†, forced me to spend countless weekends and summers with my new family, my step siblings and step mother.This unfamiliar change was the cause of my strong desire to remain sheltered beneath my mother’s wing but instead nature would drive me towards a more self-reliant road. Be that as it may, I would not change overnight. I still struggled to be away from my mother when it came time for school. Most children struggle with the concept of going to school. Leaving ones comfort zone and journeying into a strange new territory is of great significance in an individual’s life. Most children learn to adapt with in the first year or so. I however, was the exception to the rule.Attending public education was an adjustment of epic proportions in my young life. I struggled with the issue for several years. Every year school started I wished to be expunged from existence. My problem was not with the other children; I worked well with others. Rat her my issue was with the thought of being away from my mother. Although I got along smashingly with the other children, I did not converse very much. My close relationship with my mother led me to believe she and only she was someone I could truly convey my ideas with.I also did not speak with others because their tales of their lives at home seemed somewhat abnormal to me. Tales of brothers and sisters, close families and a home consisting of a mother and a father seemed unusual. Although I had brothers and sisters, we were distant. I knew of my father, but he and my mother did not live under the same roof. Another issue I had to face was my abnormal mother. What made her abnormal was the fact that she was a single, hard working mother. This indifference from my peers and societies opinions gave me the impression that I was an outcast.Eventually I would come to realize that I was not the only person in the world under such circumstances. Learning to open up to others caused me to realize that I wasn’t alone. Interacting with other children like myself helped me to be more social and gain greater connections with my peers. I then had the ability to deal with others, but still lacked in dealing with myself. Responsibility is an inherited trait. It is not cast upon an individual in one particular place or time. At certain stages of life, responsibility starts to become more important and has a greater affect on a person’s growth and development.From the time I could talk, my mom began teaching me the importance of responsibility. Nevertheless, my first true test came when I was left alone at home. While my mother was away, she entrusted me with the task of preparing my own food. Learning to cook for myself gave me more confidence and helped me to be less dependent on my mother. As my mother became aware of my newly responsible personality, she decided to entrust me with greater responsibilities. After moving, my mother did not want to switch me fr om the school I was attending so I remained there until the end of that school year.In the beginning, she rode the public bus and walked down the neighborhood to get me. After noticing that I could reside at home alone and care for myself my mother decided that I could handle walking down the neighborhood to meet her at the bus. Being with my peers was hard, dealing with my stepsiblings was an ordeal, and being at home alone was unimaginable. Nonetheless, the most unbearable of them all was walking alone; surrounded by strangers and an unfamiliar environment made me uneasy.Eventually, I came to realize that it was a part of life, part of being responsible and that I was growing up. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I was finally learning to deal with my several issues. The responsibilities laid upon me helped me to be more understanding of life and the ways of the world. My self-dependence began to grow as well as my self-confidence. Growing out of childhood and into adulthood does no t instantly occur; many people experience several events that transpire before they reach adulthood.In spite of that, there are always significant moments that have to pin point the beginning of one’s journey. For me this consisted of being left to fend for myself at home, learning to adapt socially with individuals amongst me and beginning to deal with real life responsibilities. These several adversities strengthened my confidence, stability, and self-reliance, as well as my outlook on the world and others. My childhood and my attachment to my mother where far from severed relatively the experience had opened to door to a new path of life, helping me to grow further from my old mind frame.

Autism has become one of the top disabilities in California’s developmental system. Today, the rise of autism is increasing by 10 - 17 percent each year. (Madeleine 3) The disease was first identified by child psychologist Leo Kanner in 1943 at Johns Hopkins University (Little 2). Autism is a disorder that is usually detected within the first three years. According to the Autism Society of America, 1 in 166 individuals are diagnosed with autism, making it more common than the pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. Boys are four times more likely to have it than girls. People with autism have a hard time communicating verbally and physically. They have special ways of gathering and reacting to information presented to them.†¦show more content†¦This program is available in two forms: home-based and school-based. Both of these programs offer help with speech, physical or occupational therapy. Autistic people from the age of 3 through the age of 21 can receive a free educational program. This program addresses a wide range of skill development, such as: language, behavioral issues, academics, self-help skills, social skills, and leisure skills. (Pericak 5) Many treatment approaches have developed different ways of dealing with the challenges of autism. First, there is the theory of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which consists of giving a child a specific task, which teaches skills from basic ones to more complex ones, such as social interaction. Flinder Valves free essay sample

In early May 2008, talk began between president of Flinder Valves, Bill Flinder and Tom Eliot, chairman and CEO of RSE about a possible acquisition of Flinder Valves by RSE. The industrial manufacturing industry had taken a hit due to rough economic times and the acquisition made sense. Both leaders were very concerned about the challenges and risks of the deal. Flinder was a company that engineered and manufactured specialty valves and heat exchangers. These products required extensive research and development and they were one of very few firms working in these types of applications. A bullk to FVC’s sales came from defense and aerospace applications. They were known for their prime contracts and engineering excellence. Sales have continually grown for FVC and from 2007 to 2008 they jumped up over 23%. After going public in 1996, Auden, a distributor for FVC came to them with proposals of a merger but a deal was never made. FVC has been approached by numerous firms but no deals have gone through. Lately, FVC has drawn more attention from us with the disclosure of their new project, the widening gyre. We feel as though if this technology takes off and is applied could bring value ranging from $5 to $15 million. VALUATION From RSE’s analysts and accountants due diligence, we have come to the conclusion that we believe FVC to be valued around $186.4 million. Our procedures for coming up with this value was based on the sales projections from 2008-2012 that FVC has provided for us. We used a discount rate of 3.2%. The percentage used was based on the growth rate of GDP and what numerous other sites suggest the industrial manufacturing industry is growing at. We are also under the assumption that FVC’s cash flow projections are correct. However, we are very skeptical of FVC’s projected growth. From 2003 to 2007 their sales increased by a total of 36% over the period. Their projections from 2008 to 2012 reflect a 51% increase over the period. Now, we understand that they are not accounting for the widening gyre in these projections, so what exactly are they basing these projections off? We would need to see the introduction of numerous new products to accept these cash flows as relevant. While running the transaction multiples analysis we evaluated net sales, operating income and cash flows from other mergers within the industry. We calculated the means and medians and used those in our valuation of FVC. When calculating net sales we came up with a range high of $78.1 million and low of $71.3 million. With operating income we came up with a range high of $166.4 million and low of $151.1 million. The last factor we looked at was cash flows and came up with a range high of $89.2 million and low of $79.6. The next valuation method we used was the market multiples analysis. We took the average of similar companies in the industry, multiplied it by our earnings per share, at $2.28, which gave us a value of $42.29. We then multiplied that number by the number of shares, at 2,440,000, which gave us a value of $103.2 million. Due to FVC’s current market cap at $100 million, we feel as though this a very accurate value for them. ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES While we not only valued FVC, we also have to take into major consideration the advantages and disadvantages. These can have major impacts on the future earnings and health of a company. We feel as though the biggest advantage to the acquisition would be the collaboration of our engineering teams. While our collaboration has lacked in the past, FVC’s has excelled and has become industry leaders. With improved engineering and products, we can begin to cross-market and sell our products with FVC’s to further increase our revenues. Because FVC is a more specialized company, by acquiring them we can diversify ourselves and lessen our risk of competitors. Another big advantage will be the lower cost of materials from our suppliers saving more on cost of goods sold and improving our bottom line. We will also be able to implement our new resource management system that will save $1.5 million in the first year and $3 million the years after. A couple disadvantages we found with the acquisition would be an increase of debt or decrease in cash holdings, depending on how we decided to fund the acquisition. Some people within our company worry about the dilution of our shares. We currently have close to 63 million shares outstanding and acquiring an additional 2.4 million will not dilute our earnings. Another concern we have is how well FVC employees will be able to adapt to our company culture and size of our company. FVC is a smaller, more entrepreneurial company and we are cautious of the risk that FVC engineers work ethic and productivity could change due to working for a bigger firm with a different cultural environment. As for some alternatives to not reaching a deal, we feel as though it would be best to reinvest money back into RSE or invest in other projects. Our RD department has been extremely weak the past two years and we could benefit from investing in that. There have not been any recent new innovations within the company, and with reinvestment into the RD department, we are confident that new innovations will be right around the corner. RSE has had their eyes on many other companies in the industry so we will not rule out possible acquisitions of those companies as an alternative to FVC. RISKS We are aware of a few risks with this possible merger that concern both companies. One of our main concerns is the preservation of relationship between the two companies. If a deal is not reached or an offer is made that might offend either party, we do not want our relationship with FVC to deteriorate. A transaction risks that we have addressed is the possibility of environmental fluctuations during the negotiation process. If we wait too long to reach a deal, others in our industry could be gaining ground on us. The exchange rates could change and affect our foreign sales. There are multiple financial risks that we face. One of the biggest risks we fear is overpaying for FVC and they happen to under-perform how we anticipated. Our shareholders will be very displeased and will likely not support future acquisition inquiries. Another risk we face when acquiring FVC is that Auden will pull out of his position as our distributor. Auden accounts for 15% of FVC’s sales, which would definitely hurt our cash flows if we take them on. Some operational risks that we fear are assimilating FVC into our company. Though we still want them to operate as independent entity, we want them to adopt some of our processes as well. We fear that some of these processes might not be adopted at first and will be costly to implement. All of these mentioned risks that have been addressed out could have a potential negative, inverse effect on the future cash flows of FVC. GOALS From our perspective, we hope that many things can be accomplished whether we reach a deal or not. First off, from RSE’s side we would like to acquire FVC at the lowest reasonable price possible. Regardless of whether we reach a deal, we would like to preserve the relationship with FVC. We feel as though if a deal is not reached, both companies can add value by learning from each other. During the negotiation we will keep an open mind to new information coming from FVC and adjust our models accordingly. We do not want to let our emotions get involved in this negotiation. We will stay true to our quantitative analysis and take qualitative information into consideration when we feel it is appropriate. When entering the negotiation we intend to come in with as much knowledge as possible. Our due diligence and research of FVC will help us accomplish this goal. We believe that FVC’s goals in this negotiation are to preserve the relationship, as well, and to settle the deal at a high price. FVC will likely want to keep the same engineering practice standards versus letting them be watered down with ours. They would like to remain as independent as possible from us to ensure their brand is not lost within ours. NEGOTIATING STRATEGY Our strategy for this negotiation is to enter with a reasonable, low offer which we believe is around $103.2 million. We base this off our market multiples valuation and industry average price/earning ratio. We will put that offer on the table to FVC and see what their next move is. By starting low, this strategy gives some wiggle room. Our absolute highest walk-away price will be based on DCF analysis. The value we came up for that is $186.4 million but we will walk away somewhere around $175-$180 million range. On a per share basis we came up with $42.29. For a walk away per share basis, we came up with $76.40. We fully intend to listen to FVC’s valuation with open minds, but also feel as though our prices are very solid and accurate. We will stick to our quantitative analysis and be stern with our offers.

Robinhood Essays - Film, Fiction, Counties Of England,

Robinhood Critiquing the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves by Kevin Reynolds, was filmed in two locations: Los Angeles, California and Yorkshire, England. The film location was accurate for the movie. It was shot mostly in England in Sherwood Forest, to give a more authentic effect. The costume designs were accurate, with today technology and designers anything is possible. The make-up was great, making them look just like peasants. The props were just like the ones use during that time period. The facts seem correct with Robin Hood stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor. And it was dated around the right time in the 14th century. I had learned a lot from this Robin Hood, because I always thought it was just a movie thought of like Peter Pan. I did not know it dated back to the 20th century and is considered a ballad. I have seen so many different Robin Hoods and this one seem to make more sense. It gives you the whole picture of how Robin Hood became. They also talked about the different religions and how one country thought everybody should follow their religion, whether you wanted to or not. The purpose of the third crusade was to enforce their beliefs. The movie was entertaining. The actors and actress gave a very good performance. The film appeared to be very realistic. The movie moved along very smooth without any mistakes. I know there were probably a million retakes but with today technology the film was edited properly. The special effects were excellent. The film did appear to be dated for the correct time period it represented. Films and Cinema
